Stories of Paraná - Kurds in northern Parana?

The Kurds in northern Parana?
Ruy C. Wachowicz

In the 20s, the North of Paraná was almost transformed by the British of "Paraná Plantation" - the largest
colonizing the region - in a dump site for the Kurds in northern Iraq.
The British had found oil in that region of Iraq, which was then under British tutelage.
The Kurds created many problems for the British, because of their traditional national agitation.
To alleviate these pressures that threatened the profits promised to provide oil, decided to transfer
over 100,000 of these elements to the lands of the "Paraná Plantation" located in northern Paraná.
The "House of Rothschild", the "Lazard Brothers," the Prince of Wales and the League of Nations, lobbied the government
Getúlio Vargas to agree to receive them.
Negotiations passed in secret, without the means of communication Brazilians take knowledge.
But in December 1933, it transpired.
Lawyers and intellectuals gathered in Curitiba were permanent, it was time for Constituent.
Resolved as oppose arrival of these Kurds, who were ignorantly called "Assyrians".
Two media were the most commonly used against this immigration: the press and the microphone of Radio Club,
PRB2 recently installed in Curitiba and was at the time a real "whooping" popular.
The station was one of the first commercial broadcasting stations operating in Brazil.
The radio gave freely their microphones and lawyers called their program "The Voice of Paraná."
The Kurds were presented as an undesirable immigration.
They were called "rogue", "race without stoves and no altars", "saltiness of civilization", "bleach society"
"Element beaten by stories", etc.. Etc.. Several entities in Curitiba, led by corporate workers,
reached to organize a "meeting" (term used at the time to denote rally) in the square Ozório.
Every night was a lawyer in charge of lecture microphone PRB2. Nationally, the Paraná causídicos
allied to the Society of Friends of Alberto Torres.
Despite the Minister Salgado Filho had already given their agreement to introduce the "Assyrians", the very "Paraná Plantation" gave up the enterprise.
Concluded that the English, with public opinion against the action of the campaign, the rest of the land in the north suffer sharp devaluation.
Therefore opted to sell them under a smallholding farmers of any nationality.
Got away as the Paraná this exotic venture.

Stories of Paraná - After us hits, Doctor

Stories of Paraná - After us hits, Doctor

After nóis (us) hits, Doto (doctor)
Deborah Iankilevich

Northern Paraná. 50 years. The city of Centennial South, then Jaguapita district, was in no way different from the other towns of the North: a street only red dirt, which turned pure clay every rain.
To circulate after a downpour, and only Jeep look there. Traveling to Londrina to Curitiba or demanded patience and courage.
To reach the capital, 13 hours a painful and tiring trip.
Even knowing it was not going to be easy, the young doctor, graduated in 1948 from the Federal University of Paraná, decided to risk it.
Encouraged by lawyer friend Dalio Zippin, was to the north of the state.
It was some time in Paranavaí then passed Cambard, Jacarézinho, Bandeirantes, Londrina.
Stay the same, to work, came in Centennial South, in spite of everything.
Rode GP surgery in a room of the house of Joseph pharmacist Gurgel, put a sign on the front door and was awaiting the clientele.
Did a little of everything.
Catered to all kinds of people, from pregnant women to tuberculosis.
What else heard of his patients, very humble people without resources or instructions, was a phrase he learned fast, ai become customary: "after nóis hits, dotô". Most returned even then to hit.
Who had not paid money as he could.
A pig, some chickens.
Or not paid.
But not so ceased to be serviced.
They were difficult times. The Northern Paraná lived his Korean War, vacant land dispute between squatters and land grabbers, those relying on the providential "help" the police then funded by large landowners.
A bloodbath in which the victims killed by the hundreds, were small farmers.
The ambushes were daily.
Die or kill was a matter of luck.
Or aim.
In the morning, the doctor agreed with beats in the window. The leader of the settlers had been waylaid and needed help. Joe Fearless was his name and lived up to the name and fame.
Years before, when the war began over land, had gone on foot, Centenary South to Rio de Janeiro, to tell President Getúlio Vargas what happened in Paraná. Received by the deputy heard the promise that the authorities would resolve the situation.
The doctor took care of the injury Joe Fearless, a bullet in the shoulder. And after that I never heard from him.
Today, Doctors Day, Dr. Solomon lankilevich character of this story, turns 70, almost 50 of which dedicated to the pursuit of a medical honorable and dignified, without concessions to commercialism that has taken over the job.
Congratulations and thank you, doctor.

Stories of Paraná - Escape from Judge

Stories of Paraná - Escape from Judge

The Trail Judge
Alceu A. Sperança

It was not yet reached the time jaguncismo.
First half of the 50s, Muñoz Bento da Rocha Neto had to grant the status of Cascavel Municipality, emancipating it from Foz do Iguaçu.
Pioneering region, advanced front in the colonization of Paraná, Cascavel lived reign economic timber.
It was, however, a "city" feíssima. The county was created by force, imposed by Maripá, colonizing all the company-
Çoderosa who had settled in Oledo. And that the Legislature would not create the District of Toledo, in 1953, if not in Cascavel also be created.
The two, after all, were authorized by Judge José Muñoz de Mello, President of the Court of Justice of the State, so Solomonic.
In Toledo everything went according to plan.
That day July 9, 1954, Judge Cid Cimas Lamb assumed command of the District without a single incident.
But in Cascavel everything was different.
The installation ceremony of the Forum was scheduled for 14h. Judge Ignatius Pinto de Macedo, appointed by the Court to assume the direction of the district, landed the DC-3 aircraft, the Royal Aerovias, at 9am. Received with due honors by municipal authorities, the city was rehearsing a party, with the traditional barbecue of great occasions. The first judge Cascavel did a quick spin through the small town and without hesitation ordered transport your luggage back plane, whose return to Curitiba planned for 14h that same day and time specified for its possession.
Claiming that the weather was "too heavy", and embarked Macedo "escaped", leaving behind the party and barbecue.
Fears Macedo soon confirmed.
An early gunmen threatened to put on trial the judge resolutely death Aurelius Feijoo, substitute Macedo ahead of the District, sparing the prosecutor, himself a lawyer and jurors.
The weather was really "heavy". In one of the most frequented meeting places, a farmer threatened the enemy death, "service" would be completed drinking the blood of the dead. The threat was fulfilled to the letter, in public, quietly and confirmed by the author in the course of the trial.
By that time, a roughneck found disaffection within the Church of Santo Antônio and invited him to "die out there for the noise did not bother the saints."
A merchant Lydia Luchesa, very religious, put a crucifix in the hands of every body tumbled to death on the streets of Cascavel.
Its stock crucifix did not last long.
I had a little over two years ago when Councilman Adelino Cattani fell dead beside my mother, who was leading me by the hand, shot by an enemy.
Very few, considering the facts that followed, Dr. Macedo called the "cowardly". Besides the more his friends claim that he had been assigned to the district of Cerro Azul by a decree of July 2, 1954. Ie: more than one month before the installation of Rattlesnake County.
So the "leak" of the judge is an episode that makes the most dense part of the folklore of our "western" that the heroic story of the Judiciary Paraná.
