Stories of Paraná - The Congress centenary
The centenary congress
Tito Moreira Salles
Landed in Curitiba, on January 2, 1953. New Year's Eve parties prevented me from inaugurate it on the first day of the year.
This city was in full euphoria of the celebrations of the first centenary of the emancipation policy.
The government sent emit a kind of seal, with motifs depicting and portraying a cliché local buildings and landscapes.
Today, such a sheet is rarity.
Remem-ber me that one of them bore the Hospital São Lucas. The sender of any letter of these stamps pasted on the back of the envelope and was, thus, an effective advertisement and informative.
There were also conferences.
Congresses of all, journalists, pharmacists, folklore, psychology, veterinary, etc..
It even seemed that the organizers of all the congresses held in Brazil that year, Curitiba had chosen as host.
Now the estudantada soon realized that all Congress
had their day waxing and the best at the end of each session solemn closing ever came a "free mouth." It could be something simple with chips and beer for the student congress, or a sophisticated bufet for the most relevant conferences.
Enough, therefore, to follow the news and events of the last day, wear the outfit to bum a cocktail.
After the first sorbed doses, until the environment became frank cordiality.
A week in August, was the Congress of Rectors.
Closing with all the pomp and circumstance in the auditorium of the State College of Paraná, huge building, brand new.
It was a most solemn session, the governor Bento Muñoz Rocha closed with admirable speech, which was a great orator, which compared the development of Northern Paraná, with a time of expansion of England in the time of Queen Victoria.
Benedict captivated audience and rectors, was applauded.
After the magnificent ceremony, we moved on to the cocktail table.
The now seasoned "turkeys" of Congress were there, of course.
But this time got a little shy to approach such illustrious figures.
At the same time, however, the French champagne - even French champagne! - And fine delicacies brought appeals irrefutable.
In indecision acanhamen-to, because suits were shabby, threadbare and a tie buff forced shoe requesting retirement, the governor appeared in person.
At first glance, he realized what was happening.
So in a gesture more freedom, invited us and insisted that we should serve him.
Never a champagne and hors d'oeuvres fit so well.
Tito Moreira Salies doctor.
