Stories of Paraná - After us hits, Doctor

Stories of Paraná - After us hits, Doctor

After nóis (us) hits, Doto (doctor)
Deborah Iankilevich

Northern Paraná. 50 years. The city of Centennial South, then Jaguapita district, was in no way different from the other towns of the North: a street only red dirt, which turned pure clay every rain.
To circulate after a downpour, and only Jeep look there. Traveling to Londrina to Curitiba or demanded patience and courage.
To reach the capital, 13 hours a painful and tiring trip.
Even knowing it was not going to be easy, the young doctor, graduated in 1948 from the Federal University of Paraná, decided to risk it.
Encouraged by lawyer friend Dalio Zippin, was to the north of the state.
It was some time in Paranavaí then passed Cambard, Jacarézinho, Bandeirantes, Londrina.
Stay the same, to work, came in Centennial South, in spite of everything.
Rode GP surgery in a room of the house of Joseph pharmacist Gurgel, put a sign on the front door and was awaiting the clientele.
Did a little of everything.
Catered to all kinds of people, from pregnant women to tuberculosis.
What else heard of his patients, very humble people without resources or instructions, was a phrase he learned fast, ai become customary: "after nóis hits, dotô". Most returned even then to hit.
Who had not paid money as he could.
A pig, some chickens.
Or not paid.
But not so ceased to be serviced.
They were difficult times. The Northern Paraná lived his Korean War, vacant land dispute between squatters and land grabbers, those relying on the providential "help" the police then funded by large landowners.
A bloodbath in which the victims killed by the hundreds, were small farmers.
The ambushes were daily.
Die or kill was a matter of luck.
Or aim.
In the morning, the doctor agreed with beats in the window. The leader of the settlers had been waylaid and needed help. Joe Fearless was his name and lived up to the name and fame.
Years before, when the war began over land, had gone on foot, Centenary South to Rio de Janeiro, to tell President Getúlio Vargas what happened in Paraná. Received by the deputy heard the promise that the authorities would resolve the situation.
The doctor took care of the injury Joe Fearless, a bullet in the shoulder. And after that I never heard from him.
Today, Doctors Day, Dr. Solomon lankilevich character of this story, turns 70, almost 50 of which dedicated to the pursuit of a medical honorable and dignified, without concessions to commercialism that has taken over the job.
Congratulations and thank you, doctor.
