Stories of Paraná - The cornerstone
The cornerstone
José Carlos Calvo
Remember that TV advertising of some throat lozenges that were the solution in the case of
"Rumrum catch the bug you?" The tablets such should not exist in the late 50s, hence
engineer Cassio Bittencourt de Macedo, sometime later president of the Institute of Engineering
Paraná, lived affected by hawking annoying and distracting, and it gave the "I cause" I'm here to recount,
told to me by the Cassio few years ago.
There by 1958, Cassius was Secretary of Transportation and Public Works in the government of Mr. Moses Lupion. Had passed much of the governmental period, many works were already completed and delivered, but the governor, packed with excitement, I wanted more! When there were only a few months to the end of his term, Lupion marked the laying of the cornerstone of one more achievement.
I do not remember now if it was a school or a hospital.
It was, in any case, the work of large.
Would be built in Londrina,
city that was rising to a great future, which was proved in the course of time.
On the appointed day, they were all around the ceremony, as commanded posted the best costume of the time.
There were many people, important people and representative of Londrina and region, some state authorities, school, etc..
As usual on such occasions, there were many speeches delivered in grandiloquent tone, followed by the inexorable palms palms palms and more.
Cassius was next to the Bishop Geraldo Fernandes, tempered man circumspect and prestige for personal value. The governor was speaking Lupion praising their own management did and, in the enthusiasm of the moment, which always gives a push in the most eloquent of politicians, purchased speech themed promise:
- Although the deadline for closing some of our management, we face this challenge with more energy and conclude this work.
We want to give it to this industrious community, before the end of our government, winning this race against time.
Just then, the "pet of the rumrum" caught Cassius affected the importunate pigar-ro. And he was right: next to the Bishop Geraldo, without knowing the true origin of that hawk, came a little more of him, looked at him with a look as soon as brejeiro and whispered "between his teeth," with one hand curved over her mouth, as if protecting the confidentiality, told him:
- Sincerely, Dr. Cassio ... ALSO I do not believe in this promise!
