Stories of Paraná - Culture and distension

Culture and distension
Ney Braga

I've been asked if my situation as Minister of Education and Culture at the time of the Geisel government, was part of the strategy of gradual distention of the president.
I think the cultural openness of the Geisel government helped distention.
But it was not strategic.
Since childhood, in Lapa, lived with artists who came through town. The Elite movie theater for a time, was my late father.
Mayor of Curitiba, organized events such as the festival of film and music festivals.
In state government, the first term, from 1960 to 1965, I had the satisfaction of seeing the sunrise Comedy Theatre of Paraná. It was a great moment of theater Paranaense, with the presence of actors quality Nicete Bruno, Paulo Goulart and Claudio Correa and Castro and directors such as Jose Renato.
Alongside actors Paraná as Laia Ari Schneider and Fontoura, they transformed the Teatro Guaira - at the time there was only the small auditorium - a pole theatrical Brazil.
In MEC realized that culture was treated almost exclusively as bureaucratic. A change of perspective due to people who came to work with us.
Manoel Diegues Junior, father of filmmaker Carlos Diegues, took over the Department of Cultural Affairs.
Roberto Parreira was for the Program and Cultural Action in Funarte, created in my management.
We had the film director Roberto Farias as president of Embrafilme.
Orlando Miranda in the direction of the National Theatre. The writer Herbert Salles toward the National Book Institute.
With this group, the essential orientation of the great President Ernesto Geisel and the help of his ministers, was established cultural policy very democratic.
When artists had problems with censorship came looking for us and was often found a solution.
Many artists attended assiduously ministry. And, most importantly, the minister assiduously frequented the theaters.
One day old stick commitment to Lapa: could restore the Teatro São João, which is part of the cultural history of Paraná.
Regina Duarte lit up the stage as his talent, the reopening.
The distension of President Geisel worked very well in the cultural and contributed to the restoration of democracy.
That would be just information in memory.
But the other day I met a dear Fernanda Montenegro in Opera Wire.
She embraced me very affectionately and said:
- From all this, Ney, owe a lot to you!
But I remember that for me, a lot of it started with the theatrical performances that enchanted boy da Lapa and created between him and the stage, a relationship of love rapture.
Ney Braga, lapiano, was mayor of Curitiba, Twice ^ esgovernador Paraná minister and two folders.
